This is an image of the 1507 world map by Martin Waldseemüller, who was a German cartographer. The full title of the maps is Universalis cosmographia secundum Ptholomaei traditionem et Americi Vespucii aliorumque lustrationes (The Universal Cosmography according to the Tradition of Ptolemy and the Discoveries of Amerigo Vespucci and others). Waldseemuller is credited with first usage of "America" to describe the New World continents. The label was chosen in honor of the Italian explorer, Amerigo Vespucci.
