Advances in Technology
Depicted here are several major technological developments of the Early Modern period in Europe. These developments drastically changed the landscapes of conflict both in Europe and abroad as European powers expanded their influence and came into conflict with other peoples. Major trends of the period include the rise of the firearm-particularly the flintlock mechanism- and the development of heavy artillery. Advances spurred more change, both in technologies (such as how cannons led to the development of star forts) and tactics (as you'll read in Changing Tactics).
